EXCUSES, EXCUSES AND MORE EXCUSES!

Well here I go again.  I just keep saying that I'm going to start posting photos and then nothing happens.  I swear I really am the "King of Procrastinators"!  And the really crazy thing is, I have 3 or 4 pages up for me to post on and I'm not using any of them for anything other than making excuses for why I'm not posting.  This is getting ridiculous!

Well all that is about to change as I have huge news!  I am going to be a first time grandfather!  Its true!  In 2 weeks (May 7th or so) my daughter Sasha will be giving birth to a baby girl.  I am so excited!  Her name is going to be Caitlyn Sophia.  So now I have a real reason to start posting.  I really want to document my adventures in being a grandpa.  I so want to be a good influence on her and judging how I've been with Jeremiah (my great nephew) I think I will do fine.

Which leads to my next big news: I QUIT SMOKING!!!!  I have been smoke free since Monday morning, April 23, 2012. I'm using the Nico-Derm nicotine patch and it's really helping.   I still get cravings and at no time do they ever completely subside but the are manageable. I never want my Granddaughter to me as a smoker.

So that's all my news for now and I will check in again soon.

Peace.

I'm back and I've got news

Well, a lot has changed since my last post. For one thing I've come to the realization that I will not be returning to work. My health is in such a bad state that it's just not possible for me to hold a job for the foreseeable future. That being the case, I decided I should find something to do with my time so I don't drive my family crazy. Ive always enjoyed photography though I never really put in any time or effort to try to become a better photographer. Last year (2009) I bought a little Canon point and shoot and I started just taking photos whenever I was out and about and I noticed that some of them were really quite nice. In Jan. 2010, I received a Fujifilm Finepix S1500 which had much more user controls and I started taking better photos but I also noticed that there is a lot more to this thing than just pointing the camera at something a pressing the trigger. So I started reading up on photography and Wow, there is so much to learn! But I'm also having so much fun too. Well, a few months ago I bought my first "real" camera, a DSLR. There is so much to learn. and now I found that there is a whole world of post processing I have to learn just to make my photos really acceptable.
Anyway, I really do want to become a good photographer and I know it is going to take a lot of just practice so starting with the new year (2011) I will start post my photos here.
I don't want to just slap an old photo up just for the sake of posting so I am only going to post photos I think are worthy of being seen. At first I will post at least 1 photo every week. If I find after awhile that I can, I will up it to 1 a day. That will probably not get to 1 a day for a while yet though. So that is my plan. I will start Jan. 1, 2011 and who knows maybe someday someone other than myself will actually read this thing! :>) So I'll see ya soon.

Been a long time

Hey all, Its been a long, long time since I last posted anything and I think I know why. I really wanted for this blog to be interesting and I just havent thought of anything interesting enough for this blog. So I got to thinking that one of the things I find interesting and enjoyable is taking photos. Especially photos of San Francisco and of my family. So what I will do from now on is to try to post at least once a week, and include a photo and explain why I took it, why I like it and what I think is interesting about it. And if anyone else enjoys it, well thats even better.

If it aint broke.......

I took this photo of Radio Havana Restaurant on 22nd and Valencia st about a year ago. They've been there for as long as I can remember and they always had this great collection of all these random things attached to the front of the place. From time to time they would add or remove something so every time I walked by it was fun to see what I could find different from the last time. Well, I walked by a few days ago and I couldn't believe it, they had taken everything down! Why would they do that? It was just such a big part of the personality of the place. I just hate to see so much of the cool and quirky things that make this such a great city disappear. I was just telling someone that I remember back in the 60's, my grandfather would take me in his taxi at night on the freeway and you could see all the lights from the beer and coffee factories south of Market st. And then early in the morning you could smell the coffee roasting and the french bread baking. Now I know progress must go forward but I just really miss all those quintessential San Francisco things that are gone now and Radio Havana taking all those things down just reminded me of how much this City has changed in just my lifetime. O.K., got that off my chest. See ya soon, Victor

Fishing!

My nephew Justin and I took his son Jeremiah fishing a few weeks ago and an absolutely great time was had by all! It was Jeremiahs first time fishing and he really enjoyed himself. I think it was one of the best fishing days I've ever had. I will take Jeremiah again soon. He is my little buddy!

Alter Under the Freeway

I was walking on Division street the other day and I saw this. I don't know what it is but it looks like some sort of alter to me. Its in a little fenced off area under the freeway. This is an area where some homeless folks camp out at night so I am assuming that's who put it there. I like that it looks like someone really put some time and thought into making this. Or perhaps they were just tweaking. I just know that I like it and find it interesting and that's what this blog is going to be for, things I find that I think are interesting in some way that I hope you will enjoy too. See ya soon, Vic
